Kitty McKay is an artist and researcher eternally preoccupied with the ways in which public space is made and unmade. Working across installation, moving-image, sculpture, sound, collage and writing, their approach to practice is informed by feminist, queer and crip frameworks for understanding, and overcoming, the ways power constructs place. Their installations seek to evoke the errant, dissonant and unauthorised socialities and practices that happen in urban space through the dislocation of materials that comprise and enforce spatial hegemony.

Kitty co-runs the socially engaged walking project, Incursions, which uses group walking to explore relationships between space, place and people. They also contribute to the More Than Meanwhile Space working group as a researcher, exploring longer-term futures for artist-led initiatives in the North East.

Kitty received an MFA from Newcastle University in 2025. They completed their BA in Fine Art and History of Art at Goldsmiths University in 2018 and participated in School of the Damned, an artist-led, alternative study programme, between 2020-2022. Kitty is an Associate Member at The NewBridge Project, having attended The Collective Studio in 2020. Kitty was selected for New Contemporaries in 2021, and they have exhibited at and programmed activity for BALTIC Centre For Contemporary Art, South London Gallery, ICA London, Farrell Centre, Firstsite Gallery, Vane, Middlesbrough Art Week and The NewBridge Project, amongst many others.
